Norfolk Mallards Edge Out Salem Sasquatch in Thrilling 3-2 Victory

Attleboro, MA – February 8, 2025 – In an exciting matchup between the Norfolk Mallards and the Salem Sasquatch, the Mallards emerged victorious with a 3-2 win, thanks to a late goal in the third period.

The game kicked off with early pressure from the Sasquatch, as Luke Plumley opened the scoring at 16:57 of the first period. Plumley's even-strength goal, assisted by Gaetano DeLonge, gave Salem a 1-0 lead. However, just under three minutes later, Ryan Zarnowski extended the Sasquatch’s advantage to 2-0 with a power-play goal at 13:23. Zarnowski’s goal was set up by DeLonge and Kyle Weeks.

But Norfolk refused to back down, with Jack Halloran scoring a power-play goal at 10:31 to pull the Mallards within one. Assisted by Matt Guertin, Halloran’s goal gave the Mallards a chance to fight back. Less than three minutes after Halloran’s tally, the Mallards evened the score at 2-2 when Kyler Harding found the back of the net at 7:56. Harding's even-strength goal was assisted by Kyle Nicolas and Kevin Messom, setting up a tense final period with both teams deadlocked.

The deciding moment came at 12:50 of the third period, when Jack Halloran netted his second goal of the game, an unassisted effort that gave Norfolk the lead for good. The Mallards held on for a 3-2 victory, despite a strong effort by the Sasquatch.

Both goalies played admirably in the game. For Salem, Keegan McLaughlin turned aside 29 of 32 shots, good for a .906 save percentage. On the other side, Norfolk’s Parker Butler made 30 saves on 32 shots, finishing with an impressive .938 save percentage.
