Watertown, MA – December 7, 2024 – The Boston Gold Kings delivered a commanding performance at the John A. Ryan Arena on Saturday night, knocking of the Norfolk Mallards 9-1 in a game that was never in doubt. The Gold Kings, led by a hat-trick from Shamus Doherty.
The Gold Kings wasted little time asserting themselves. At 16:04, Boston opened the scoring when Shamus Doherty found the back of the net with an even-strength goal, assisted by Joel Robbins. Just under eight minutes later, the Gold Kings doubled their lead as Ryan Drizen scored another even-strength goal at 8:36, with help from Nick Pitarys.
The early two-goal cushion gave Boston all the confidence they needed to set the tone for the rest of the game.
The second period saw Boston continue to pour it on, starting with a goal from Nick Pitarys at 17:30. Assists went to Drew Carney and Christopher Maher as Pitarys buried an even-strength tally to make it 3-0. Less than a minute later, at 16:26, Doherty struck again, this time with help from Justin Freedman and Anthony DiCostanzo to extend the lead to 4-0.
At 14:51, Christian Baldino made a spectacular short-handed play, scoring a breakaway goal with Matt Baldino picking up the assist to push Boston's advantage to 5-0.
The Gold Kings weren't done yet. With just over two minutes remaining in the period, Matt Baldino added another even-strength goal to make it 6-0, unassisted. With Boston in complete control, the Mallards were left to regroup as the game seemed all but decided.
Norfolk managed to break up the shutout at 19:10 when Brad McGovern scored a goal, assisted by David Piela and Zachary Lewis, to make it 6-1. However, Boston quickly responded with another goal from Jack Doherty just 20 seconds later, assisted by Jake Fernandez, pushing the lead back to 7-1.
As the game wound down, the Gold Kings continued to add to their tally. Christopher Maher scored at 15:59 with the assist going to Russell Childers, and Shamus Doherty completed his hat-trick with a final strike at 13:52, assisted by Ryan Drizen, to round out the 9-1 final score.
Tim Carpenter would make 26 on 27 shots in the win for the Gold Kings. Jeremiah Sylvia would take the loss for the Mallards allowing 6 goals on 40 shots. Justin Koulalis would come in for the Mallards allowing 3 goals on 26 shots.

Both teams will be back in action next Saturday. The Boston Gold Kings travel to Salem at 8:35 to take on the Sasquatch. Norfolk will have their first home game in Attleboro at New England Sports Village against the Holyoke Papermen at 6:00.
